Not every house is haunted by ghosts. Sometimes a haunting takes the form of a lingering memory, a buried secret, a legacy of violence, or a past that steadfastly refuses to stay buried.
These selected works explore haunting in its many forms, from supernatural presences and seemingly sentient buildings to homes made unsettling by grief, family tensions, or social anxieties. Some are traditional ghost stories; others use the Gothic to examine questions of identity, class, gender, and belonging. What connects them is the idea that houses are never simply empty spaces. They accumulate histories, reflect the people who inhabit them, and sometimes reveal the things we would rather keep hidden.
